Our biking practice run

Roger and Dad and I went biking to get ready for the Tour de Cure today! I have not been on my road bike in yrs. So, I was not prepared with clothing and I wore a low cut shirt because for me it normally doesnt matter on my mountain bike, but when you are down that far...not good. So, like 4 miles in I am like..'guys, I need to put my shirt on backwards' and Dad was like 'Yes, I think the girls are distracting drivers.' Anyway, Dad and I drafted Roger for like 10 miles until he realized the reason we were both so close and he couldn't lose us. He didn't think it was as funny as we did. We went out on route 2 almost to Waterbury from Jericho. Oh well, so then after a bit...they told me to go from the back and so I did and since I didn't really know how to shift I was hustling to get in front...and had to run up a hill...I didnt really realize it but I totally lost them. And got on the flat and saw Dad coming..assuming Roger was close...I didnt know how fast to go ...since I had been in the back the whole time. We got to the end of the road and they were both mad. Dad's like 'I wanted to draft you and it took a mile to catch you' and then when Roger showed up he was all disturbed...and Dad said 'Hey, you aren't with your national guard friends anymore...you're with an old man and a WOMAN.' It was funny. We went like 30 miles which is only 1/2 of the Tour de cure we will do in a few wks. I feel good but I have also had like 4 advils.... (let's see how I feel tomorrow) Oh well...I had fun.

Shelley cookin' for the army...

Marina at the Yam Scram in Burlington

Marina kickin' some butt!

I like that Grandma and Shelley are on the other side of the fence..cheering for Marina in this picture. Shelley claims the freaky and very excited guy in the orange was in her way so that is why she doesn't have pictures of the end of the race..but, I don't even see her camera up for photographing...hmmm. Very funny. Go Marina!

Everybody is a winner...but Marina is the best (to me)

So, even after busting open her incision from surgery on Wednesday, Marina ran in the Yam Scram at the Waterfront in Burlington. She beat her old record by a few seconds coming in at I believe 9 minutes and 41 seconds for a mile. I think that is awesome. She was in a huge crowd and it was pretty wet and cold. Her foot was fine which I was worried about for some reason. We are all so proud of her.

Over the Hedge

Let's get two hours of sleep and go to a totally dark movie theater to see a really bad kid movie! Whoo Hoo!!

Marina and "the" screw

"Marina....You scared me...I can't live without you!" "You did it before I was born..." "Yeah, but...I knew somehow you were coming!"

Marina went to the hospitol for her foot surgery on Friday morning. She was most upset that she was unable to eat anything from 5am until the surgery, which was supposed to be at noon. I called Shelley at 4:30 and she had just barely gone in for the surgery. From the reports I heard, Marina was whining really badly that she just wanted to go home and that she was sooooo hungry. I really don't blame her...I get hungry by 10am usually and definately can't skip lunch. So, anyway, the surgery was a success and by 5:00 I heard back that everything went great and she would be going home soon. So, I was thinking..."great." The kids and I went to see RV and Felix met us there. We got home and as I was lying in bed at 10:30 Mom called and said that Marina's oxygen levels kept dropping and she kept not breathing when she would fall asleep. A cause for alarm. So, of course, me being me...got all upset and was crying for an hour. But, then at 12:40am Shelley called and said that she was starting to come out of it and that she was acually able to sleep without her oxygen levels going way down. That was good. So, I went to sleep and woke up at 5am thinking about her...and wondering if it was too early to call the hospitol (which I did decide against.) Shelley called me at 8:00 am and said that she was eating then going to go home. So, panic over. Then, we went to gymnastics and back to Mom's house. Marina, Shelley and Roger showed up around 3:00 and we went to see the movie "Over the Hedge." That was not the greatest movie in the world. But, it was a chance to get out. Then we all went back to Mom's for CHOCOLATE CAKE! Yummy. Everyone was really, really tired.

Smilie Days are here again!

It was back to school for me today. This was my first day back from vacation from volunteering at Smilie. I read this way cool book Cucumber Soup and then I had the kids make some of their own cucumber soup. Anytime there is cooking involved it seems things get a bit wild. I had a cup and a measuring spoon for each child all ready to go...all they had to do was take their particular ingredient and put it in. Seems easy enough. Not really. It actually wasn't that bad but when the noise level gets up there, I start getting a bit nervous. Then, at the end everyone got a taste and only probably two of the kids liked it. All the teachers were loving it...and Justin and Chris brought some down to the principal to try. I love how they always think of him and bring him some of our cooking ....when we do cook. Anyway, I was back in the saddle. I was a bit nervous coming back but it was fine. Shel, you will like this, Dahrian asked me why I shake so much when I was pointing to something in the book. Good lord! I told her.."yeah, my sister picks on me all the time about that." Funny. It was good to be back. Next week...something about dairy farming. hmmmm...that is going to be interesting.

Now, I have to go bring the kids their backpacks before they have lunch. I was in such a rush getting out of the house that I forgot. We got a notice last night that it is school picture day today...I guess that is what we get for being gone..short notice of this weeks events. So, that meant I had to pick out and iron clothes for both kids unexpectedly. And, actually do something with Mirabel's rag hair. And this is after I forgot my wallet yesturday, was late for spinning, and locked my keys in my car. So far, the day is not going well, but let's hope for a better day than yesturday. Smile!

Weeeeeeeee're baaaaack. Hill Hockey School is already in session. We went from 90 degrees to 30 in less than 24hrs.

This is Justin and Marina. They are both in the same session because there was low enrollment so the mites and squirts are combined. Marina's foot really hurt..she is having surgery next Friday so hopefully the pain will go away after a week or so.

Mother's Day. I still have not had a chance to get Mom a present.

Cypress Gardens and Mirabel on the boat

The Thrill Seeker. Justin has graduated.

Justin has graduated to the BIG roller coasters. And the big drop rides. I guess I have to admit that my "baby boy" is growing up. He is trying to kill me with these rides. He went on the roller coaster where your feet hang down sitting in the front..3 times in a row without getting off. Brat. Brat. Brat. I guess his father has a partner now. Mirabel and I went to the kiddie rides, but how many times can you do the car ride.

The water park was ok. I am not a big fan of the water at the parks especially since there was a bathroom issue there. So, I just stayed in the chair and watched. I guess if the river floating ride were open I would have actually went in.

We did have a good time though.

The smoothie did wake her up.

The Cracker Barrell. And the one picture of me just to prove I was in Florida.

Biking along the orange groves.

I went for a two hour bike ride today. It was good. It was hillier than the other rides, more like VT. I mapped out a route but it wasn't all that long, so I also took my regular route. This is a picture of riding by one of the few orange groves left in town. It is kind of cool. I did get caught in the beginning of a rain storm which is why this picture is incredibly dark. It is not an illusion. I found out that rain makes you ride a lot faster. I was cooking that last three or four miles. I knew that there was a chance of thunderstorms and I really did not want to wait around for that....which did eventually come. So, it stormed for a bit. Then, since we are going to a water park tomorrow I had to go get a new bathing suit. One with a skirt...to hide the cellulite. It is a little tight...but the skirt hides pretty much everthing. I will have to suffer with the tightness...to avoid looking like half the people that will be there tomorrow. I really don't enjoy looking at people with flab hanging out of some gross suit. It was bad enough at Sea World. Then, you also have the ultra skinny people that let it all show. I did not have to use my imagination at all with one girl there. Wow.

"Smile and wave boys...smile and wave." The penguins were really cool.

Shark tank. I did not have to go running out this time!

A big splash hitting Justin's seating section...and he came out dry!! How did he do it?

Sea World. I could not get a picture of Shamu to save my life.

Today we went to Sea World. It is truly better than Disney on many levels. It is low keyed. It has really cool animals and a lot of nice messages. It is not nauseating with rides. Justin did go on the flume ride twice though and got thoroughly soaked both times...which he loved. He was quite disappointed that he did not get very wet in the "soak zone" at the Shamu show. We all got a lot wetter than we expected at the dolphin show, including Mirabel, who was NOT happy. The Shamu show was its usual sappy self. I cried at the soldier salutes...and I cried at the Believe theme, and the kid who got to go up on stage and share their "dream." I cried at the animal rescue stories. It was great. Gotta love Sea World. We had a bunch of fun and it finally got muggy ...hazy, hot and humid. Needless to say, the bangs were all the way back, and I was a sweat pit. It was quite gross actually. I got home and took a shower, even though I had babywiped myself down on the way home. My camera battery died halfway through the day and I could not find my replacement even though it was right in my bag. I did not realize it until I got home. Oh well. I tried to take pictures with my camera phone of the last show (we went to Shamu twice...and by the way...seeing it twice doesn't cut down on the crying) but my memory was full. I was not meant to take pictures at that show I guess.

Tomorrow, I hope to sleep in. That is sort of a joke, because even though we are not doing very much...the kids will be up early.

Irrational? I don't think so!

As almost everyone who knows me knows I have a very, very bad fear of snakes...maybe a phobia...I don't know. Ok. It is. Anyway, this is a picture of the driveway, but part of the route I take has this kind of spanish moss effect. All I can think is that a snake is going to fall out of the tree on me. It is so bad ever since Missy Francis told me that she was in Florida sitting in a chair and a snake fell on her. Anyway, lets hope no snakes fall on me!

The biggest hill I found on my bike ride.

I went for a longer bike ride today, not really on purpose. I am a bit of a hill hound and I was looking for a hill to ride..which I ended up being very far away from. Anyway, when I got about 40 minutes away, I realized I forgot my water bottle. So, my quest ended up being for a drink. I had to ride on a 4 lane highway and was never this happy to see a sidewalk in my life. I rode another 3 miles and found a Citgo. Then, I figured I would use the bathroom and got sketched out and brought my bike in with me and ripped the mirror off trying to get it out. Then, of course, I had to get back. At that point, I was riding on the wrong side of the road against 4 lanes. I was happy to get back to the rural road.

The boy likes his bling, Shel, the boy likes his bling!

Mirabel posing with the coolest character at the park..Rose, her neighbor and friend.

Walt Disney World

We had fun at Walt Disney World. I was not feeling great after the ferry into the park. So, that meant I took a dramamine which made me feel like I had been hit by a truck all day. I was so tired, I could have fallen over. We ended up waiting a long, long time to see the Princesses. I had to sit on the floor for awhile to take a break. Then, Mirabel was kind of tired, and didn't want to go on anymore ride and the boys went to the roller coasters and we just kind of walked around. My feet were killing me by the end of the day.

Justin driving the Indy car.

Mirabel driving the Indy car.

Justin had fun on the rollercoasters. This was the first, then Big Thunder Mountain, and Splash Mountain.

Disney is truly magical. The Pond kids are sharing.

The kids on the carousel

The dangers of visiting the Princesses. Mirabel tried to wipe off Snow White's kiss but it was too powerful.

Which one is the Princess?? Mirabel at Disney.

This is for you Shelley...Sitting at A&W looking right down on Target!

My bike route. Not bad at all.

I got my bike down today. It had no air in the tires and no pedals, but once we got it all set up I was ready to go. I went down by the lake and I actually had to go up three whole hills. It is wicked flat here but apparently that is good because since I haven't been biking in quite some time, I was breathing a bit heavily. It did not feel hot at all on my bike. I guess that is good. This road is the route for the triathletes to practice. There were about twenty bikes that went by right before I went out...thank goodness there were no more. I hate getting passed, especially by someone that could seriously kick my butt.

Oh by the way, these two pictures were taken from the same spot only looking in different directions.

Eating at Chick fil a

Anywhere you go, you can get on a floatie.

Mirabel is my co-pilot.

Our flight was good except for the screaming child two rows in front of us. I kind of felt bad for the parents...but, since it was very bumpy he was scaring Mirabel a bit when we were landing. I watched the rest of the dvd The Chappelle Show. It was pretty funny. I also watched part of Legally Blonde. It seemed like a really long flight. Maybe because I was up until after 2am and got up at 6am because of our Cinco de Mayo/scrapbook party at Melissa's house. We had lots of fun, but I am exhausted.

Kiss Goodbye Derek. We are off to Florida!

The teachers are on strike. So, we are going to Florida!

The teachers in our district are on strike. So, we have decided that even if they settle soon, we are going to change our vacation plans and go to Florida the 6th instead of the 20th. This is fine with me. It is spontaneous...which I like and we don't really care when we go. We will have fun no matter what. Our host is willing to change our reservation...he is very accomodating. We are going to leave Saturday which kinda stinks because I wanted to go to the Earl's Cylclery Tent Sale. I don't really think I would buy a bike....but I really wish I had a new one. Roger scored a new bike at his neighbor's lawn sale. Very cool. I guess I will have to hit the Ski Rack's sale in a month or so. I will practice with my mountain bike for the Tour De Cure so that it will feel easier when I get on a road bike. Let's hope that theory works out. Anyway, I would rather go to Florida. I am very exicited for shopping at Target!! Forget Disney and Seaworld....bring me to the Target! ...and the A&W. There really isn't anything better than a rootbeer from an A&W drive-in. They put those cool trays on your window and the mugs are all frosty. I can't wait! Now I just have to pack. It won't take very long once I get going...I just have to get going.

Tuesday was Smilie Day. Since it is Green Up Day this Saturday, I did a recycling project. We read the longest book ever about recycling and I kept having to put the book up to my eyes to see it. I felt bad because usually the kids are so very impressed by my 'upside-down reading' ability. They are wowed by me....I know! But, this time...I don't know what my problem was, but I could not see. Justin wanted to make parachute men out of recycled materials....so we took handkerchiefs and string and tied a spool to the end. The kids took some time to decorate the cloth (not so easy with marker) and the grown-ups got to do the tying. That was not so fun...but luckily, I have a ton of helpers. I used to be a bit intimidated by having so many other adults in the room, but now I am grateful, because I usually need helpers.
